{"id":1735,"date":"2012-10-13T12:36:42","date_gmt":"2012-10-13T16:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mimbly.com\/wordpress\/?p=1735"},"modified":"2012-10-13T12:36:42","modified_gmt":"2012-10-13T16:36:42","slug":"onion-tart-by-josh-and-brent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mimbly.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/13\/onion-tart-by-josh-and-brent\/","title":{"rendered":"ONION TART BY: JOSH AND BRENT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mimbly.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_6454.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1736\" title=\"IMG_6454\" src=\"https:\/\/mimbly.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_6454.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mimbly.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_6454.jpeg 550w, https:\/\/mimbly.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_6454-300x224.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/mimbly.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_6454-400x300.jpeg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even when I was a little boy I was a champion of diversity.\u00a0\u00a0 I didn\u2019t care if the onion was white, yellow or red.\u00a0 I liked them all.<\/p>\n<p>My favorite meal at grandma\u2019s house was the onion sandwich\u2026 thin slices of onion, two slices of bread, and a generous layer of Duke\u2019s mayonnaise.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately for all of you, my tastes are a little more sophisticated now, but sophisticated and simple are not mutually exclusive when it comes to good recipes.<\/p>\n<p>Have you ever thought about combining savory caramelized onions, tangy bleu cheese and sweet, juicy slices of apple?\u00a0\u00a0 I hadn\u2019t either until Sandy Gluck made the suggestion.<\/p>\n<p>The result was a delicious and decadent onion tart that will impress every single person at your table.<\/p>\n<p>6 tablespoons\u00a0 olive oil<\/p>\n<p>21\/2 pounds yellow\u00a0 onions, halved and thinly sliced<\/p>\n<p>1 large sweet apple, peeled and cut into thin wedges<\/p>\n<p>Coarse salt<\/p>\n<p>All-purpose flour<\/p>\n<p>3\/4 pound storebought or homemade pizza dough<\/p>\n<p>8 ounces blue cheese, crumbled<\/p>\n<p>1\/3\u00a0 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped<\/p>\n<p>In a large skillet, heat 4 tablespoons of\u00a0 the oil over low heat. Add the onions, cover the skillet and cook,\u00a0 stirring occasionally until the onions are tender, about 25 minutes. Uncover and continue cooking, stirring frequently until the onions are golden brown, about 20 minutes more. Stir in the apple, season with salt and cook until crisp-tender, about 5 minutes longer.<\/p>\n<p>Preheat the oven to 500. On a lightly floured work surface, roll the dough out to a 14 inch round. Transfer the dough to a large baking sheet and brush the top with the remaining\u00a0 2 tablespoons oil. Scatter the caramelized onion-apple mixture over the top, leaving a 1-inch border all around. Scatter the cheese and nuts on top.
